Lion Voices: Hannah Cervantes

Written By: Kassidy Barnt

Happy Sunday, Lions! Today’s Women’s History month #LionVoices feature is SisterHood Expansion President, Hannah Cervantes. She is a junior surgical technology major from Van Buren, ˿Ƶ.

Hannah said as a Latinx woman on campus she found herself looking for other Latinx women to build community with. “I was fortunate enough to meet an amazing group of ladies that shared the same passion and determination as me.” SisterHood Expansion, founded by Hannah and a group of dedicated peers, highlights Latinx women on campus through support, mentorship, and encouragement. Hannah is thrilled to have started the first interest group to bring Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc, a Latina-based (but not Latina exclusive) sorority to campus.

“My mom is a Latina woman in a primarily-male career field, and her resilience and empowerment has shaped me into who I am today,” Hannah said. “She has pushed the limits of society and trailblazing to give women in our community a place to thrive. Her love for service and giving back to our community has taught me to reach out to those who feel like they don’t belong and create a safe space for them.”

Earlier this month, Hannah had the opportunity to interview her mother, Tammy Pacheco, during her Women’s History Month keynote speech. “It was amazing to hear her share the advice that she’s given me throughout my life with a crowd, inspiring others on how to succeed and keep pushing forward as a woman to others following in her steps.”

Hannah also shared that she is consistently inspired by are the lifelong friends that ˿Ƶ has brought her. She knows that they will always have her back, support her, and continue rooting for her in all aspects of life.

To meet more amazing Hispanic women like Hannah, join us at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at Si Se Puede en ˿Ƶ, our first Spanish recruitment event at Zapata’s Restaurant in Fort Smith! Read more about the event at: /news/2022SiSePuedeEn˿Ƶ.php
